Any 4WD vehicle that is currently registered and insured (3rd party property minimum) is allowed. Before you attend any trips, you will need to speak to the Trip Leader for that outing. They will advise you of what to expect on the trip, and make sure your vehicle is suitable. If your vehicle is not suitable, you may still be able to attend if another member is happy to take you with them.
All vehicles attending a club trip are required to have a UHF radio on board. Channel 10 is the usual channel for club trips. All vehicles must remain in contact with the trip leader and the convoy.
Convoy procedure is a way to ensure order from the start of the trip until the end.
The trip leader will assign someone to go last (Tailend Charlie), and if necessary someone in the middle of the convoy (Malcolm in the Middle).
Drivers are expected to obey the normal road rules.
It is the responsibility of each driver to maintain visual contact with the vehicle behind them wherever possible, and to wait at intersections to see that the following vehicle knows which way to go.
Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front, especially at water crossings, mud or dusty conditions but avoid falling back so far as to slow the convoy.
After negotiating hazards such as water crossings, mud or gradients, wait until the vehicle in front has successfully negotiated the hazard before proceeding and ensure the following vehicle has negotiated the hazard successfully before moving on.
All gates are to be left as found. After opening a gate, the lead vehicle should wait in the gateway until the following vehicle arrives. Repeat until all vehicles are through and Charlie closes the gate.
Any driver leaving the convoy needs to notify the trip leader.
The convoy is to keep the trip leader informed of any delay, breakdown or recovery requirements.
In using the UHF, keep idle chatter until after vehicles have negotiated rough terrain or vehicles recovered.
